Automation Tech 2007
CEO Round Table organised by AIA on 12th April, 2007,
Mumbai The Automation Industry Association of India (AIA) organised a cross-sector symposium AUTOMATION TECH 2007 at Mumbai on 12th April. The theme for the event was : Automation - The Next Enabler Of Global Competitiveness in Manufacturing & Infrastructure . The event was aimed at highlighting the role of industrial automation in enabling Quality, Consistency, Speed, Productivity and Integration across the value chain, especially as India integrates with the world economy. Over 100 delegates from various automotive, energy, metals, oil & gas, pharma etc. attended this Seminar and benefited from the extensive experience, learnings and discussions. Dr K Kasturirangan, former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation and currently Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies and also a Member of Parliament, inaugurated the event. Delivering his keynote address, Dr Kasturirangan spoke about the enabling role of Automation in India's progress. Sharing his vision of national excellence, he urged industry captains and AIA members to engage in collaborative resource sharing. Eminent industry leaders from Automotive, Oil & Gas, Power, Engineering & Construction, Metals & Mining, Pharmaceutical, Warehousing & Supply Chain sectors spoke about their own experiences on how automation technologies have enabled them to raise productivity and efficiency to global levels. Regardless of whether we want to increase yield from crude, enhance productivity of steel, gain energy efficiency in cement, optimize quality of paper, carry out precision tasks for semiconductors, ensure consistency like paint finishing in automobiles, perform repetitive functions like welding & placement or ensure hygiene in sectors like pharmaceutical, food & beverages etc. industrial automation has a crucial role to play. The symposium concluded with a CEO panel discussion, on ways and means
to raise awareness levels about 'real-time' ability that differentiates
Industrial Automation from traditional IT & Telecom technologies.
"If you can measure how your plant is functioning 'in real-time',
you can respond 'in real-time' and deliver with higher level of reliability",
said AIA President, JP Singh. Prominent CEOs who participated like Anil
Sardana, Gerhard Klement, K Venkataramanan, Kuldip Kaura, Uday Bhansali
and Ravi Uppal shared how global vision inspired their teams to adapt
quickly to high levels of automation. Automation, they said, had clearly
stepped up business capability, created new opportunities for higher value-addition
and driven their companies growth, performance levels and customer satisfaction.
